Together, we research and break down complex, and even controversial, topics facing our society. Our goal isn’t to convince you to see things our way. We want to build a foundational understanding of these complicated topics so that we can address them together. We talk about some pretty heavy stuff on this show, and we tackle topics that might feel polarizing. But we do that because we have an important goal in mind: We want to change the way people have hard conversations. And, we think we can do that using research and discussion to create common understanding. And, since you’re here, we hope you want the same thing. So we suggest getting comfortable, and maybe having a good drink on hand as we work through this stuff. Welcome to our fireside.

Session 25: Foundations of Tolerance
Monday Mar 08, 2021
Monday Mar 08, 2021
If you’ve been listening along to the previous couple of episodes, you know that this session aims to explore the ideas of tolerance vs. intolerance, and how the two collide. I’m just going to warn you up front, you’re likely to leave this one with more questions than answers. Such is the ironic nature of philosophy. In our quest to find answers, we often just generate more questions.
And surprise surprise, this got way bigger than we anticipated it getting so we’re going to have to split this into two. This week, we’re giving you some basic background on tolerance, a quick dive into the first amendment as a foundational argument for, and also sometimes against, tolerance, and a quick peek into what counts as intolerant speech.
As always...
